Assistant Camp Director of Day Camp
Join our team at Camp Hoffman as an Assistant Camp Director. At camp, empower, mentor, and supports other staff in all areas around camp. Responsibilities include supervising staff and overseeing the running of the camp program, flexibly adapting and reacting to the fast pace of camp, supporting campers as needed, and filling in for the camp director when needed.
Schedule: June 9th to August 20th (Monday-Friday) (Off July 4th)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in managing the operation of the overnight and day camp programs as well as actively promotes the Girl Scout ethical code and mission in all phases of camp life.
Assists in planning and carrying out pre-camp training
Supervises and evaluates camp counselors
Works collaboratively with fellow administrative staff to create group rosters, group & program schedules, and staff assignments/schedules.
Communicates with camper caregivers via phone, email, and in person.
Assist in overseeing dining hall operations.
Ensures that the health and safety of campers and staff is recognized and upheld. Sees that emergency procedures for camp are observed.
Support camp and staff behavior management in accordance with established policies
Keeps the Camp Director and staff informed of activities, problems and concerns.
Facilitates and participates in all emergency drills in collaboration with the Director.
Maintains health and safety standards for campers, staff, and self. Report accidents and files reports promptly with the Camp Director and/or their designee.
Prepares reports and sees that required records are kept up to date and reports filed. Including all staff reports are completed at close of season, prepares and makes recommendations for program, equipment and facility needs for the future.
In the absence of the Camp Director, oversee camp operations as directed.
Adhere to and enforce Girl Scout, State of Rhode Island, and American Camp Association standards and policies.
Participate as a member of the camp administrative team to plan, direct, evaluate and supervise day & evening programs, special events, staff, all-camp activities and day and overnight camp functions as assigned.
Maintains knowledge of emergency protocol with the ability to make immediate lifesaving decisions.
Day Camp staff may be expected to work at least one Thursday overnight during the summer.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years or older
Current CPR/First Aid Certification (can obtain during training if needed)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have the visual, auditory, and physical ability to quickly identify and appropriately respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities and emergencies at camp, as well as generally uphold all safety standards.
Previous experience in Girl Scouts, camps, and/or education a plus but not required.
Previous supervisory experience required.
Reliable transportation to get to and from their assigned bus stop or camp each day.
Ability to work Thursday Overnights each week preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to walk/hike 3+ miles per day to include rough and uneven terrain.
Ability to respond quickly and calmly in an emergency situation.
Live and work in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, humidity, sun, rain, uneven terrain and other elements.
